House With No Steps Summerland Region was established in 1971. Nestled amongst 69 hectares of fertile farmland on the lush North Coast of NSW, this was the perfect location to offer farming as an outdoor employment option for people with disabilities.
Currently, Summerland House With No Steps, provides employment and training opportunities for over 80 people with disabilities. These areas of employment and business include Office Administration, Avocado and Macadamia Nut Farming, Macadamia Dehusking, Tropical Fruit Packing, Agriculture, Garden Maintenance, Restaurant and Hospitality services, Retail and Tourism.
HWNS also provides assessment and training for life skills such as budgeting, hygiene, travel and home duties.
Today HWNS is one of Australia's leading organisations in the rehabilitation field. Committed to making the most of people's abilities, we encourage family involvement by providing information, advice, and a sense of security, so that carers know their loved ones are in good hands.
Our goal is to help people with disabilities achieve independence. Independence is achieved through:
- Employment Services - giving people economic security and access to job opportunities.
- Residential and Support Services - encouraging people to participate in community life and supporting them throughout.
- Recreation Programs - supporting people in their leisure time activities.
Tourism plays a very big part at Summerland HWNS, with over 45,000 people visiting the project annually.
